Sitiado
Nazaré
Perched on the clifftop in Nazaré's Sítio neighbourhood, Sitiado is a wine bar serving creative petiscos with a full panorama of the beach below. Short menu, well-chosen Portuguese wines, and homemade regional sweets. Book ahead on weekends.
Most visitors to Nazaré take the funicular up to the Sítio neighbourhood, snap a photo at the fort, and head straight back down. That's a mistake. Sítio, the old quarter perched on top of the cliff above the beach, has its own rhythm. And one of the best reasons to slow down up here is Sitiado, a small wine bar and taberna at Rua Amadeu Guadêncio 2.
This is not a tourist restaurant with laminated menus. Sitiado is a seriously curated wine spot with a kitchen that treats Portuguese petiscos (small plates) as something worth caring about. The space is compact, with vintage-inspired decor that feels honest rather than staged. The real draw, though, is the view: from the terrace you get the full sweep of Nazaré beach, the open Atlantic, and on big swell days, a front-row reminder of why this coastline is famous. If you're in town to watch the giant waves at Praia do Norte, Sitiado is where you warm up afterwards.
The menu is short and changes often, which is exactly what you want. The petiscos are creative but grounded: well-executed riffs on Portuguese classics, built on local produce without unnecessary fuss. Don't overthink it. Ask the staff what's good that day and follow their lead. Nazaré has deep traditions around dried fish and seafood, and if you've already done the market crawl, you'll recognise some of the flavours on the plate.
The wine list favours lesser-known Portuguese producers, with solid regional representation. There's craft beer too, and homemade regional sweets to close things out. Prices sit in the moderate range (€€), which feels fair for the quality and the setting.
Sitiado is in Sítio, the historic clifftop neighbourhood above the main beach. You can get up by funicular from the seafront (under two minutes, costs just over a euro) or drive up the winding road. Walking is possible but steep. Once at the top, Rua Amadeu Guadêncio is a short walk from the funicular station.
The space is small, so showing up without a reservation on a weekend is a gamble. Call ahead: +351 262 087 512. Weekdays are calmer. If the terrace is full, don't leave. The interior has enough character to make up for it.
We couldn't confirm current opening hours, so call before you go, especially outside peak season.
Don't rush through Sítio. Hit the viewpoint, visit the Igreja da Memória, and if you want to extend the evening, Zulla Terrace Bar is another laid-back option nearby. And if you're visiting Nazaré this summer, check the calendar for Jazz Valado 2026, which this year features Ana Bacalhau with the Big Band da Nazaré.
Sitiado doesn't try to be anything it's not. It's a wine bar with a thoughtful list, petiscos made with care, and one of the best views on the Portuguese coast. Order a bottle, settle in, and leave the rush to the people already back on the funicular clutching their selfies.
