· Mafra

The Bread Festival returns to Mafra for its 13th edition, from 3 to 12 July 2026, at the Jardim do Cerco. Ten days of gastronomy, free concerts, a rural fair and a celebration of Mafra's famous bread. Free admission for all the family.

The Mafra Bread Festival (Festival do Pão de Mafra) returns for another unmissable edition, running from 3 to 12 July 2026 at the iconic Jardim do Cerco, next to the National Palace of Mafra. Over ten days, this green space becomes the great summer gathering point of Mafra, drawing thousands of visitors around one of the region's most iconic products: Mafra bread.

Throughout the event, visitors can explore an exhibition and sale of Mafra bread, discover the work of local bakers and producers, and take part in the Bread Forum, dedicated to celebrating this culinary heritage. Food stalls serve traditional snacks, regional sweets, crafts and local products in the authentic atmosphere of a Feira Saloia (rural fair).

The musical programme is one of the festival's highlights, with free concerts every evening on the main stage, usually from 10 pm, bringing renowned names of Portuguese music to Mafra. Alongside the music there are folk dance groups, street entertainment, a drummers' gathering and demonstrations of rural traditions that fill the grounds with colour and movement.

Families will also find a dedicated Children's Area, with activities, games and entertainment designed for the youngest visitors, making the festival a programme for all ages. Admission is free (subject to venue capacity), making it one of the most popular and accessible events in the municipality.

For those visiting Mafra, the Bread Festival is the perfect opportunity to combine a tour of the magnificent National Palace and Convent of Mafra — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — with an immersion in Saloia culture, local gastronomy and the community spirit that defines this town. It is best to arrive in the late afternoon to enjoy the stalls and stay for the evening concerts.
