Throughout August 2026, the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Museum of Modern Art in Amarante presents the GROUND ZERO exhibition, open to the public until 30 August. It is a must-see for anyone visiting the city with an interest in modern and contemporary art.
Housed in the former Convent of São Gonçalo, beside the iconic bridge over the Tâmega River, the museum pays tribute to Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso (1887–1918), the Amarante-born pioneer of Portuguese modernism and one of the most internationally recognised figures in national art. The space brings together works by the artist along with a dynamic programme of temporary exhibitions that engage with contemporary creation.
