9th Caldo Verde Festival

Penafiel celebrates its traditional cuisine with the 9th edition of the Caldo Verde Festival, taking place on 18 and 19 July 2026. This festival pays tribute to one of the most symbolic dishes of Portuguese cooking: caldo verde, a comforting soup made from finely shredded collard greens, potato, olive oil and slices of chouriço sausage.

Over two days, the event becomes a meeting point for those who appreciate the authentic flavours of northern Portugal. Visitors can taste different versions of this iconic dish, prepared by local associations, restaurants and regional cooks, each with their own special touch.
