5th Trail dos Descobrimentos – Belmonte 2026

The 5th edition of Trail dos Descobrimentos invites nature lovers, sports enthusiasts, and adventurers to live a unique experience in the municipality of Belmonte on May 24, 2026. The race starts from the village of Carvalhal Formoso and leads participants through stunning natural scenery to the historic Belmonte Castle, in a true journey of discovery through the Cova da Beira region.

The event offers three categories adapted to different levels of experience and fitness. The Long Trail, approximately 25 kilometres, is designed for experienced athletes seeking a demanding challenge through the municipality's wildest paths. The Youth/Mini Trail, around 15 kilometres, is ideal for intermediate participants who want to combine physical effort with landscape appreciation. Finally, the Walk, approximately 10 kilometres, provides an accessible outing for everyone who simply wishes to enjoy a day immersed in nature.

The day's programme begins at 7:00 AM with registration opening at Belmonte Castle. At 8:10 AM, the organisation provides transport to the starting point in Carvalhal Formoso. All races start at 9:00 AM, and the day concludes with a communal lunch and awards ceremony at 1:00 PM. The organisation ensures transport to the starting location and a post-race meal for all registered participants.
