26th Alvalade – Porto Covo Mountain Bike Raid

· Porto Covo

The legendary Alvalade–Porto Covo Mountain Bike Raid returns on May 17 for its 26th edition. Over 1,500 cyclists ride between 70 and 120 km through the Alentejo countryside to the Vicentine coast.

The 26th Alvalade – Porto Covo Mountain Bike Raid is one of the most iconic cycling events in the Alentejo region, attracting over 1,500 participants annually from Portugal and neighboring countries. The event takes place on Sunday, May 17, 2026, departing at 9:00 AM from Escola Professor Arménio Lança in Alvalade.

Participants can choose between two routes: the classic 70 km one-way ride from Alvalade to Porto Covo, or the 120 km circular route that returns to the starting point. Both routes traverse stunning Alentejo inland landscapes, passing through rural paths, agricultural fields, and dirt roads before arriving at the beautiful Vicentine coast.

The event welcomes mountain bikes, gravel bikes, and e-bikes, making it accessible to cyclists of varying experience levels. It is organized by the BTT section of FC Alvaladense, which has kept this tradition alive for over two decades.

Porto Covo, the finish line for the 70 km route, is a charming fishing village on the Alentejo coast, within the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. After the ride, participants can enjoy the stunning beaches and local gastronomy, making this event a complete experience combining sport, nature, and culture.

Registration is available on the official organization website. The event is supported by the Portuguese Federation of Cycle Touring and Bicycle Users (FPCUB).
