Festival Maravilha 2026 - Island Edition

· Horta

Festival Maravilha returns to the city of Horta from June 9 to 14, 2026, with an island-focused program that blends music, contemporary circus, visual arts and creative interventions in public space. A celebration of culture, sea and the Faial community, with most performances free of charge.

From June 9 to 14, 2026, the city of Horta transforms into a vast open-air artistic laboratory with the new edition of Festival Maravilha, organized by Associação Cultural Fazendo. This is the festival's first chapter — known as Maravilha Terra (Wonder Land) — preceding the ocean-focused July edition, with Praça do Infante as its main stage and performances spreading across streets, squares and emblematic spaces of Horta's historic centre.

Festival Maravilha was created to celebrate Faial's deep connection to the sea and to culture, turning the island into a meeting point between the local community and the sailors who call at Horta's famous marina during their Atlantic crossings. The program brings together music, contemporary circus, dance, theatre, visual arts and creative installations, with more than two dozen artists of various nationalities taking the stage.

The 2026 musical line-up promises memorable moments with names such as Virgem Suta, Farra Fanfarra, Rokia Koné, Romeu Bairos, Anti Dress Code, Pedra Lume, PS Lucas + Daniel Catarino, Oboé com Asas, Porbatuka, Lokta and the Grupo Folclórico do Salão, giving voice to the festival's sonic diversity — from Portuguese indie and traditional Azorean music to jazz, blues and world music.

Beyond the concerts, the festival invests in workshops, projects with local schools, craft fairs featuring regional products, food stalls celebrating Faial gastronomy and street performances using universal languages such as music, mime, dance and acrobatics. This inclusive approach makes it ideal for families and visitors of all ages.

Visiting Horta in June during Festival Maravilha is a unique way to discover the Azores' sea-city: its pedestrian streets, the most colourful marina in the Atlantic, Peter Café Sport and the viewpoints overlooking Pico become the natural backdrop for one of the archipelago's most original cultural festivals. Most activities are free of charge.
