XXXIV Mirandese Song Festival
The Mirandese Song Festival returns to Miranda do Douro on July 6, 2026, as part of the City Day celebrations. A unique musical event dedicated to preserving and promoting the Mirandese language through original composition and performance.
The XXXIV Mirandese Song Festival (Festibal de la Cançon Mirandesa) returns to Miranda do Douro on July 6, 2026, at the emblematic Largo Dom João III, in the historic center of the city. It is one of the most important cultural initiatives of the Mirandese plateau, organized by the Municipality of Miranda do Douro in partnership with Casa de La Música Mirandesa.
Held as part of the City Day commemorations, the festival's main goal is to stimulate musical production and encourage new composers, authors and performers to create original works in the Mirandese language, which has been Portugal's second official language since 1999. This event plays a fundamental role in valuing and revitalizing Mirandese, helping ensure that this ancient language remains alive among new generations.
Throughout the evening, several artists take the stage to present original songs, competing in various categories including Best Lyrics in Mirandese, Best Vocal Interpretation, and Best Musical Composition. The setting of Largo Dom João III, with views toward the Cathedral of Miranda do Douro, provides a truly special backdrop for this celebration of Mirandese cultural identity.
The festival has free admission, attracting visitors from across the Trás-os-Montes region, neighboring Spain, and tourists curious about this territory's unique culture. Beyond the musical component, it's an excellent opportunity to discover local gastronomy, the famous posta mirandesa beef steak, regional wine, and the iconic Pauliteiros stick dancers that often animate the city's celebrations.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good spot and to take advantage of the weekend to explore the castle, the Museum of the Land of Miranda, and the impressive Douro International Natural Park, right at the city's doorstep.
