Senhor do Calvário Festivities 2026 in Gouveia
The largest pilgrimage festival in the Beiras region returns to Gouveia from 6 to 10 August 2026. Five days of music, folklore, gastronomy and religious tradition, with concerts by José Pinhal Post Mortem Experience, Van Zee, Luís Trigacheiro, Hybrid Theory and Némanus. Free entry.
The Festas do Senhor do Calvário, known as the biggest pilgrimage festival in the Beiras region, return to Gouveia from 6 to 10 August 2026, turning this mountain town into a grand stage of music, culture, gastronomy and devotion. Organised by the Municipality of Gouveia, the festivities draw thousands of visitors every year to the northern slopes of Serra da Estrela for five intense days of popular celebration.
The 2026 line-up is one of the most eclectic ever. Opening night on 6 August belongs to José Pinhal Post Mortem Experience, a project that revisits the universe of the iconic Portuguese singer with irreverence, emotion and celebration. On 7 August, Van Zee takes the stage — one of the most promising voices of new Portuguese urban music. Saturday, 8 August, combines the traditional Gouveia International Folklore Festival, organised by the Rancho Folclórico de Gouveia, with a concert by Luís Trigacheiro, who blends fado with a contemporary sensibility. On Sunday, 9 August, the adrenaline of the Gouveia Super Special Rally Stage precedes an evening with Hybrid Theory, the acclaimed Linkin Park tribute band. The closing night on 10 August — Municipality Day — features Némanus and their festive repertoire.
The religious component remains at the heart of the event, with solemn processions in honour of the Senhor do Calvário departing from the emblematic Calvário Chapel — deeply rooted moments of local identity that bring hundreds of faithful onto the streets.
Beyond the concerts and ceremonies, the festival grounds — in the town centre, including the former Bellino & Bellino site, Rua Dra. Lurdes Almeida and Avenida dos Bombeiros Voluntários — fill with regional food stalls, handicrafts and street entertainment. It is a unique opportunity to taste the flavours of Serra da Estrela, from the famous cheese to roast lamb, in a genuinely convivial atmosphere.
With free entry to all performances, the Festas do Senhor do Calvário 2026 are the highlight of summer in Gouveia and the perfect excuse to discover this town on the northern side of Serra da Estrela, with its viewpoints, gardens and heritage.
