São João Fair 2026 - Évora

· Évora

The emblematic São João Fair returns to Évora from June 23 to July 5, 2026, under the theme 'Évora: European Capital of the South'. A 500-year-old tradition combining crafts, gastronomy, concerts and entertainment at Rossio de São Brás.

The São João Fair 2026 returns to Évora from June 23 to July 5, extended this year to thirteen days to celebrate one of Portugal's oldest and most beloved popular festivals. With over five centuries of history, the fair coincides with the festive days of São João and São Pedro, Évora's municipal holiday, and stands as the main moment of economic, cultural and social promotion in the municipality.

The 2026 edition has as its theme 'Évora: European Capital of the South', evoking the city's status as the cultural centre of the Alentejo region. The official opening is scheduled for June 23 at 5:00 PM, extending until 3:00 AM on that opening day.

Opening hours:

  • Sunday to Thursday: 12:00 PM - 2:00 AM
  • Fridays, Saturdays and holiday eves: 12:00 PM - 3:00 AM
  • Final day (July 5): closes at 1:00 AM

The Rossio de São Brás fairground, easily accessible from Praça do Giraldo by descending Rua da República, transforms into a vibrant space with food stalls (tasquinhas), carousels, children's areas, artisan exhibits and live performances. Every day there are concerts on the main stage, usually around 10:00 PM, featuring well-known Portuguese artists.

The programme includes exhibitions of economic activities, handicraft areas, educational space, street entertainment, sporting events and social sector initiatives. The 'tasquinhas' food stalls are one of the main attractions, offering the best of Alentejo cuisine - from açorda to pork Alentejana style, conventual sweets and regional wines.

For visitors, the São João Fair is the perfect opportunity to experience Évora at its liveliest, sharing popular traditions side-by-side with locals. Entry to the fairground is free.
