Ribeira Grande City Festivities 2026
The Ribeira Grande City Festivities return from June 25 to July 2, 2026, with an intense program of music, religion, sports, and tradition. Concerts by Mickael Carreira, Íris and Saúl promise to fill the parish of Ribeira Seca.
The Ribeira Grande City Festivities, alongside the São Pedro Festivities, run from June 25 to July 2, 2026, transforming the second largest city on São Miguel Island into a grand stage for popular, cultural and religious celebration.
The musical program is one of the great highlights of this edition, with three headline concerts in the parish of Ribeira Seca: Saúl performs on June 26, opening the musical lineup with his Mediterranean sound; Íris takes the stage on June 29, bringing her contemporary Portuguese pop to the Ribeira Grande audience; and Mickael Carreira closes the main concerts on June 30, promising a memorable night with his greatest hits.
On June 29, St. Peter's Day and municipal holiday, the emblematic St. Peter's Cavalcades take place — a centuries-old tradition recognized as one of the 7 Wonders of Popular Culture of the Azores. The day also includes the Children's Cavalcades, solemn mass and a session commemorating the city's anniversary at 6:00 PM at the Teatro Ribeiragrandense.
The days of July 1 and 2 are dedicated to activities in the historic center, highlighted by the traditional soup distribution by the Matriz Parish Council, near its headquarters, and lively street entertainment for the closing of the festivities. July 2 culminates with the performance of the emblematic Marchas de São Pedro, which parade through the historic center in a spectacle of color, music and tradition.
The program also includes sports activities, religious events, exhibitions and cultural initiatives spread across various parishes of the municipality, making the City Festivities one of the high points of the Azorean cultural calendar and a unique opportunity to experience the most authentic traditions of São Miguel.
