Óbidos International Chocolate Festival 2026

· Óbidos

The Óbidos International Chocolate Festival returns in March 2026 with the theme 'Art,' turning the medieval village into a sweet gallery filled with sculptures, showcookings, and the new Chocolate Art Museum.

The 2026 Óbidos International Chocolate Festival promises to be one of the most memorable editions yet, celebrating the perfect fusion between the sweetness of cocoa and artistic expression. With the central theme 'Art,' the event takes place from March 6 to 22, transforming the historic medieval village of Óbidos into an open-air museum where chocolate is the absolute star. The major highlight of this 22nd edition is the inauguration of the Chocolate Art Museum. This innovative space will showcase internationally recognized works developed by artists-in-residence, pushing the boundaries of what can be created with chocolate. Visitors can admire replicas of iconic masterpieces and original creations that explore shapes, textures, and colors inspired by the great masters of Art History.

The program is vast and diverse, featuring over 80 presentations and showcookings led by an elite group of more than 100 national and international chefs. In the Chocolate Laboratory, enthusiasts can learn professional techniques in hands-on workshops, while younger visitors have their dedicated area at 'Chocolate de Palmo e Meio' (Chocolate for the Little Ones), featuring fun and educational activities. The 'Art' theme is not merely decorative; it permeates every activity, from creative workshops inspired by geniuses like Gaudí and Miró to performances on the 'Ritmos' Stage. The festival also serves as a platform for the prestigious 'Chocolatier of the Year' competition, highlighting the best professionals in the industry.

Beyond the famous giant chocolate sculptures, the festival introduces 'Live Sculpting,' where the public can follow the creative process of transforming massive chocolate blocks into refined pieces of art in real-time. The sensory experience extends to the Enoteca, where chocolate is paired with selected wines, accompanied by literature and music. The venue, located in the Castle grounds (Cerca do Castelo), will be open from Friday to Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The event also includes fado concerts, street art interventions, and a Chocolate Market featuring producers from countries like Ivory Coast and Ecuador. Don't miss the chance to taste the famous Óbidos 'ginjinha' (sour cherry liqueur) served in a chocolate cup, a tradition that becomes even more significant during these days of celebration.
