Mirandela Ribbon Burning Festival 2026

· Mirandela

The traditional Queima das Fitas returns to Mirandela for five days of academic festivities, with concerts, parades, and entertainment throughout the city. One of the most anticipated events on the Trás-os-Montes calendar, celebrating youth and student tradition.

The Queima das Fitas of Mirandela 2026 takes place from June 3 to 7, transforming this Trás-os-Montes town into a grand stage for academic celebration. Organized by Mirandela Municipality in partnership with the student community, this event is one of the highlights of the regional cultural calendar, drawing thousands of visitors from across the Northeast of Portugal.

Over five consecutive days, Mirandela comes alive with concerts, performances and traditional academic rituals. The programme includes parades of graduating students through the historic streets, the famous monumental serenade, themed nights and performances by national artists on stages set up specially for the event. Queima das Fitas is, above all, a celebration of youth, knowledge and the friendships forged during the academic journey.

For visitors, it offers a unique opportunity to experience one of Portugal's oldest student traditions, soak up Mirandela's festive atmosphere and discover Trás-os-Montes hospitality. The town also offers excellent regional gastronomy — most notably the famous Mirandela alheira sausage, PDO olive oil and Douro wines — which can be enjoyed at the many terraces and restaurants in the historic centre.

The event unfolds at various locations throughout the city, with the main stage hosting evening concerts. Most activities are free of charge, though some headline concerts may require a separate ticket. Arriving early is recommended, especially on nights featuring top performers, as attendance is high. Travellers heading to Mirandela during this period should book accommodation well in advance given the tourist demand the event generates.

Beyond the academic festivities, visitors can take the opportunity to explore Mirandela: stroll along the Tua riverbank, visit the Armindo Teixeira Lopes Municipal Museum, or discover the Olive Oil Museum. Queima das Fitas is the perfect excuse for a weekend getaway to the heart of Trás-os-Montes.
