Lamego Medieval Fair 2026

· Lamego

The Lamego Medieval Fair returns from June 12 to 14, 2026, to the historic Castelo neighbourhood, recreating the era of King Afonso Henriques and the legendary Cortes of Lamego. Three days and nights of merchants, artisans, jesters, music, games and medieval delicacies, with free admission.

From June 12 to 14, 2026, the city of Lamego travels back in time with another edition of the Lamego Medieval Fair, one of the most anticipated historical events in the Douro region. Organised by the Municipality of Lamego, the fair honours the memory of King Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal, and the legendary Cortes of Lamego, which tradition holds consecrated the independence of the kingdom.

The event takes place around the Castelo neighbourhood, in the upper part of the city, where the narrow streets, the medieval wall and the castle create the perfect setting for the historical recreation. For three days and three nights, dozens of artisans, merchants, craftspeople and mystics fill the space with tents, workshops and live demonstrations: blacksmiths, potters, basket weavers, weavers and illuminators showcase ancestral techniques that have survived through the centuries.

Visitors can enjoy knight tournaments, medieval dances, live music with period instruments, fire shows, juggling acts and street theatre. There are also games of skill and dexterity for adults and children, medieval banquets, taverns serving mead and craft beers, and stalls with delicacies inspired by 12th-century cuisine.

Organisers encourage visitors to dress in period costume, contributing to the unique atmosphere of the event. Roaming entertainment includes royal processions, friars, court jesters and fortune-telling gypsies wandering through the streets of the historic quarter.

Admission is free and the event runs throughout the weekend, with the evening hours particularly recommended for the magical atmosphere created by torchlight and theatrical lighting. Lamego, known for the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios and Douro wines, also offers visitors the chance to discover its historical, gastronomic and wine heritage.

To reach the fair, it is advisable to park in the lower areas of the city and walk up to the Castelo neighbourhood, taking advantage of the route to appreciate traditional architecture. It is an ideal experience for families, couples and history lovers.
