Goethe's Dark Room — Immersive Performance at Teatro Cine de Gouveia

On 6 June 2026, between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM, Teatro Cine de Gouveia hosts Goethe's Dark Room (Quarto Escuro de Goethe), an immersive performance-installation designed for only four spectators at a time, in successive 20-minute cycles.

Inspired by the reflections of the German writer and scientist Johann Wolfgang von Goethe on the perception of colour and light, this artistic creation invites the audience to inhabit a dark, sensory and contemplative space. Spectators are guided through an intimate experience that stimulates observation, listening and perception of the chromatic nuances that emerge from darkness.

This is a unique proposal within the cultural landscape of Serra da Estrela, placing Gouveia on the map of the most daring contemporary performative experiences in inland Portugal. Due to its nature, the number of spectators per session is limited, so advance ticket booking is recommended.

Teatro Cine de Gouveia, located in the city's historic centre, is a benchmark cultural venue in the region, with regular programming of cinema, theatre, music and dance. Its programme seeks to combine the best of contemporary national creation with innovative international proposals.
