Fundão Cinema Encounters 2026
Fundão's Moagem cultural centre hosts the 2026 edition of the Cinema Encounters, with a retrospective dedicated to British filmmaker Alex Cox. Five days of screenings, debates, concerts and exhibitions.
The Fundão Cinema Encounters return to A Moagem – Cidade do Engenho e das Artes from June 3 to 7, 2026, for another edition of what is today one of the most singular film festivals on the Portuguese scene. Organized by Cineclube Gardunha in partnership with the Municipality of Fundão, the event stands out for its commitment to cinephilia, collective reflection, and conviviality between filmmakers, critics, and audiences.
The 2026 retrospective is dedicated to British filmmaker Alex Cox, author of cult works such as Repo Man (1984), Sid and Nancy (1986), and Walker (1987). The programme also includes the Portuguese premiere of the director's latest film, Dead Souls (2025), with his presence confirmed for an audience meeting.
The Cine Gardunha Acolhe section celebrates regional cinema with the presentation of two short films: Lumen, by Nelson Fernandes, and Sincero, Apaixonado, by Raul Domingues and Margaux Dauby. Iberian cinema is the theme of a round table starting with the presentation of the book Simetrias: A arte de John Ford, by Spanish critic Paulino Viota, followed by a screening of My Darling Clementine.
The reunion with Portuguese cinema includes the rediscovery of Longe Daqui (1994), by João Guerra, with the director himself present for a debate. Over five days, the programme also includes book presentations, exhibitions, late-night concerts, and debates open to the public.
A Moagem is located in the heart of Fundão, occupying the restored building of an old flour mill, now converted into a multidisciplinary cultural centre. Tickets for each session have symbolic prices and the full programme is available on the Cineclube Gardunha and municipality websites.
