Festivities in Honor of Our Lady of Socorro – Douro Festivities 2026

· Peso da Régua

Peso da Régua's biggest celebration of the year returns from July 24 to August 16, 2026. Weeks of free concerts, processions, street parties and riverside entertainment along the Douro, peaking on the weekend of August 15.

The Festivities in Honor of Our Lady of Socorro, also known as the Festas do Douro, are Peso da Régua's biggest annual event and one of the most emblematic celebrations in the entire Douro region. In 2026 the festivities run from July 24 to August 16, turning the city into a continuous stage of music, religious tradition and community celebration for more than three weeks.

The official program, organized by the Municipality of Peso da Régua, uniquely blends the sacred and the secular. On the religious side, highlights include the novena at the Peso da Régua parish church and the processions in honor of Our Lady of Socorro, which fill the city streets with devotees during the central weekend of August, around the 15th — the spiritual heart of the festivities.

On the entertainment side, the Parque Multiusos da Régua hosts free concerts featuring prominent names in Portuguese music over several consecutive nights. The 2026 lineup includes performances by Bárbara Tinoco (July 26), Maninho (July 27), BarcÀvela (August 1), Bispo (August 2), the Noite Branca white party with DJs Igor Guimarães, Pete Tha Zouk and Rui Pedro (August 3), and Álvaro Cortez (August 4). The nights frequently continue with electronic music at the Cais da Régua riverside pier, where locals and visitors mingle until the early hours.

For anyone visiting the Douro in summer, these festivities are an unmissable chance to experience Douro culture at its fullest: street parties with regional gastronomy, the traditional Francesinha Festival, food stalls, street entertainment, and the UNESCO-listed wine landscape as a backdrop. Régua, the capital of the Douro wine region, is at its best at this time of year, with lush terraced vineyards and a river busy with traditional rabelo boats and cruises.

Admission to the main shows is free, making the event accessible to all families. Arriving early is recommended on the biggest concert nights, as the Parque Multiusos fills up quickly. Visitors staying in town can easily walk between the various festival hubs, from the historic center to the riverside quay. Check the full, updated program on the official website of the Peso da Régua Municipality before your visit.
