Festival Y#22 - Performing Arts in Covilhã

· Covilhã

The 22nd edition of Festival Y brings theatre, dance and new circus performances to Teatro das Beiras in May. Emerging creators explore themes of identity and belonging with tickets from €4.

Festival Y, organized by the Quarta Parede company since 2003, returns to Covilhã in its 22nd edition with a program that asks «who are we, where do we come from, and where are we going?». Between April 30 and May 13, Teatro das Beiras hosts four performances by emerging creators selected through the Y Emerging Creators 2025 open call.

On May 7 at 9:30 PM, Tónan Quito presents «Entrelinhas» (Between the Lines), a 60-minute solo piece exploring the relationship between playwright and actor, examining «why the planned show didn't happen» through theatrical mishaps. A work that challenges the boundaries between fiction and reality on stage. Rated M/12.

On May 9, also at 9:30 PM, the dai ida company presents «Breves Notas Sobre a Digestão» (Brief Notes on Digestion), a 60-minute show blending «small stories too unusual to be invented», combining personal experience with theatrical fantasy. Rated M/16.

On May 13, Eríc Amorim dos Santos closes the Teatro das Beiras cycle with «Prima Rosa», a 50-minute solo dance piece exploring transmasculine identity and «reinvention» through movement and performativity. Rated M/12.

Complementary programming includes a free workshop on May 23 at 3:00 PM at the Orfeão da Covilhã: «Esqueleto Ohm with Dullmea», open to the public with advance reservation, subject to capacity.

Tickets for performances cost €7 (€4 with discount) and are available at the Teatro das Beiras box office and through Ticketline. Festival Y is artistically directed by Rui Sena and João Castro, with support from the Municipality of Covilhã and the Directorate-General for the Arts.

Covilhã, as a creative city, has been establishing itself as a cultural hub in the Beira Interior region, and Festival Y is one of its most consistent offerings in contemporary performing arts.
