Festas do Douro 2026 - Feast of Our Lady of Socorro
Régua's biggest festival returns in 2026, kicking off on July 24. A vibrant celebration blending religious tradition, live concerts, riverside fairgrounds and fireworks over the Douro.
The Festas do Douro 2026, held in honour of Our Lady of Socorro, return to Peso da Régua from July 24 to August 16, turning the capital of the Alto Douro Wine Region into a huge stage of popular, religious and cultural celebration. It is the most important festival in the municipality and one of the most emblematic in northern Portugal, attracting thousands of visitors during more than three weeks of intense programming.
The opening, in late July, is marked by street entertainment, the traditional fair, regional gastronomy and the first concerts at the Parque Multiusos and along the riverfront. The line-up alternates between Portuguese popular music stars, traditional bands, national pop acts and folk performances, in a family-friendly atmosphere with most outdoor shows being free.
The religious highlight takes place in mid-August with the famous Procissão do Triunfo (Triumph Procession), considered one of the most beautiful in the country, parading through the decorated streets of the city in a solemn cortege heading to the Mother Church. The Arraial do Rio, set up by the quay and riverfront, takes advantage of the unique scenery of the terraced slopes for fireworks displays reflected in the Douro.
Throughout the festivities there are also motorcycle rallies, religious pilgrimages, regional product fairs, Port and Douro wine tastings, open-air masses and activities for children. It is the best time of year to discover the Douro soul, taste the traditional Wine Region cuisine and mingle with locals at the height of celebration.
Booking accommodation well in advance is strongly advised, given the high tourist demand during this period. The detailed concert programme is usually published by the Municipality in the weeks leading up to the festivities.
