Feira da Conversa 2026 - Salvada, Beja
From 15 to 17 August 2026, the village of Salvada in the municipality of Beja hosts another edition of the Feira da Conversa. Three days of regional produce, Alentejo snacks, cante singing and live music, with free admission. It is one of the most genuine rural fairs in the Baixo Alentejo calendar.
The Feira da Conversa ("Conversation Fair") returns to the village of Salvada, in the municipality of Beja, from 15 to 17 August 2026. Organised by the Union of Parishes of Salvada and Quintos, the fair owes its charming name to what best defines the deep Alentejo: the pleasure of unhurried conversation, in the shade and in the cool of the night.
For three days, the village square fills with stalls of regional produce — sheep's cheeses, cured sausages, Alentejo bread, honey, jams, olive oil, convent pastries and local handicrafts. Food and drink stands serve traditional Baixo Alentejo dishes such as carne de porco à alentejana, tomato soup, migas, lamb ensopado, and the typical almond and gila-based desserts, all washed down with the region's wines — especially relevant in 2026, the year in which Beja is European City of Wine.
The programme usually features parades and performances by choral groups singing Cante Alentejano, recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, plus dances with live music, concerts by invited bands, children's entertainment and exhibitions of crafts and ethnography. Admission is free, making the fair an excellent way to experience the authenticity of Alentejo village life.
The Feira da Conversa is typically followed in the same week by the Salvada Cultural Week (18 to 23 August 2026), extending the festivities for several more days with sport, theatre, music and community gatherings.
Getting there: Salvada lies around 15 kilometres south-east of Beja and is easily reached by car via the EN18 and municipal roads. Combine your visit with a stay in Beja, where you can explore the castle, the Rainha D. Leonor Museum housed in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, and the Rua do Sembrano archaeological centre. Note that the main entertainment runs from late afternoon into the night, when the heat eases — daytime temperatures in the inland Alentejo can exceed 38 °C in August.
