Exhibition 'Your Species Is Not Strange to Me'
Bilingual exhibition from Centro Ciência Viva do Lousal on display at the Municipal Library of Vila Nova de Santo André until June 30. Features 43 animated characters to explore the biodiversity of the Animal Kingdom.
As part of International Biodiversity Day, the Manuel José 'do Tojal' Municipal Library in Vila Nova de Santo André hosts the exhibition 'Your Species Is Not Strange to Me' throughout June 2026. This initiative was conceived and produced by Centro Ciência Viva do Lousal.
The bilingual exhibition (Portuguese/English) brings together 43 animated characters distributed across four distinct environments of the Animal Kingdom: terrestrial, aquatic, and aerial animals, as well as extinct species. Each character corresponds to well-known figures from animated cinema, spanning from the last century to the present day, allowing visitors to associate popular characters with the real species that inspired them in a playful and educational way.
This original approach transforms the visit into an engaging experience for all ages, combining the world of entertainment with scientific knowledge about the fauna of our planet. It is an excellent opportunity for families, schools, and visitors in general to reflect on the importance of species preservation and the urgency of protecting biodiversity, at a time when many are threatened with extinction.
Admission is free and the exhibition can be visited during the operating hours of the Municipal Library, located in Vila Nova de Santo André, in the municipality of Santiago do Cacém. For tourists visiting the Alentejo coast in June, it is an enriching cultural stop to integrate into a regional itinerary, complementing the Blue Flag beaches, Santiago do Cacém Castle, and the Roman heritage of Miróbriga.
Running until June 30, 2026, the exhibition reinforces the municipality's commitment to promoting scientific outreach and environmental education activities, in partnership with renowned institutions such as Centro Ciência Viva do Lousal, in a county where natural and ecological wealth is one of its identifying traits.
