Estrela Grande Trail 2026
The 11th edition of Estrela Grande Trail returns to Manteigas from May 8-10, 2026, featuring six trail running races through Serra da Estrela. With courses ranging from 6 km to 105 km, the event attracts over a thousand athletes and showcases the stunning landscapes of Serra da Estrela Natural Park.
Estrela Grande Trail 2026 is one of central Portugal's biggest trail running events, taking place from May 8-10 in the mountain village of Manteigas, at the heart of Serra da Estrela Natural Park. This 11th edition promises three days of intense competition and celebration of nature, with six races suited to different levels of experience and fitness.
The programme kicks off on Friday, May 8, at 6:00 PM with the Uphill Fragão do Corvo, a short but demanding 6 km uphill race. Saturday, May 9, features the two longest events: the Estrela Grande Trail 105K starting at 6:00 AM — the ultimate challenge with 5,500 metres of positive elevation and a 26-hour time limit — and the Estrela Orion Belt 50K at 8:00 AM, with a 12-hour limit. Sunday, May 10, brings the Estrela Taurus 35K (8:00 AM), the Estrela Ursa Minor 15K (9:00 AM), open to all ages, and the Estrela Kids Trail and Estrela Solidário (9:15 AM), both free of charge.
The courses traverse some of Portugal's most spectacular scenery, including glacial valleys, high plateaus, and mountain trails revealing Serra da Estrela's unique biodiversity. Runners and spectators alike can enjoy breathtaking views over the Zêzere Glacial Valley, one of Manteigas's most iconic natural landmarks.
Organised by Estrela Outdoor Events in partnership with the Municipality of Manteigas, the event provides aid stations, medical support, electronic timing, finisher medals, and official photography. Bib pickup takes place at the Secretariat in Manteigas on May 8 from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM and on May 9 from 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM.
Prices range from €15 for the 6 km Uphill to €100 for the 105 km ultra-trail, with intermediate options at €60 (50K), €40 (35K), and €30 (15K). The event is an excellent opportunity to visit Manteigas and explore the region's mountain gastronomy, Serra da Estrela cheese, and local thermal springs.
