Eco Festival Azores Burning Summer 2026
The eco-sustainable festival returns to Praia dos Moinhos in Porto Formoso on 28 and 29 August 2026. In its 12th edition, it blends music, art and nature with acts such as Lura, Paulo Flores and Capitão Fausto in a stunning coastal setting.
The Azores Burning Summer is an eco-music festival that celebrates Praia dos Moinhos in Porto Formoso, in the municipality of Ribeira Grande, promoting environmental sustainability and community cohesion. On 28 and 29 August 2026, the event reaches its 12th edition, reinforcing its unique identity within the Azorean festival scene.
The 2026 line-up brings together Portuguese-language and Lusophone artists, including Lura, Paulo Flores, Capitão Fausto, Zé Ibarra, Tabanka Djaz and Throes + The Shine. On the KIA Tropical Stage, a roster of DJs — among them Keany, Portuga, Zelecta, DJs Improváveis, Herberto Quaresma and Adrian Sherwood of On-U Sound — keep the party alive into the night with sounds from across the globe.
More than a music festival, Azores Burning Summer is a cultural and environmental project. Throughout July and August, it hosts free cultural, environmental and community initiatives, involving local residents and visitors in actions that celebrate the landscape and raise awareness for nature protection. This dimension makes the festival an experience that goes far beyond the concerts.
Praia dos Moinhos in Porto Formoso is one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the north coast of São Miguel, framed by lush cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean. The natural setting, combined with the intimate scale of the event, creates a warm and authentic atmosphere, very different from large mass-market festivals.
For those visiting Ribeira Grande, the festival is a perfect opportunity to combine quality music with discovering the region: the Porto Formoso tea plantations, volcanic hot springs, natural pools and local cuisine. The mild late-August weather invites beach days before and after the concerts.
Tickets are available online, with a general pass and daily tickets, and early purchase is recommended. Given the limited capacity and the festival's growing recognition, booking accommodation in advance in Porto Formoso or the town of Ribeira Grande is also advisable.
