Carl Orff's Carmina Burana at the CCC
Carl Orff's celebrated scenic cantata Carmina Burana comes to the Grand Auditorium of the Cultural and Congress Centre of Caldas da Rainha. Four choirs, soloists and the Alma Mater Orchestra unite for a night of powerful orchestral energy and choral richness.
One of the most recognized and powerful works of the 20th century takes to the stage of the Grand Auditorium at the Cultural and Congress Centre of Caldas da Rainha. Composed in 1936 by Carl Orff, the scenic cantata Carmina Burana draws inspiration from 12th and 13th century medieval poems, addressing universal themes such as love, fortune, satire and the pleasures of life.
From the very first chords of the imposing O Fortuna, the audience is swept up by one of the most recognizable passages in all of classical music, combining the energy of the orchestra with the richness of the choirs for a truly immersive experience.
This production brings together on stage the Alma Mater Orchestra, four choirs — including Choral Phydellius and Spatium Vocale — and a trio of exceptional soloists: soprano Defne Celik, tenor Pedro Rodrigues and baritone Tiago Amado Gomes. Musical direction is led by João Baptista Branco, with the collaboration of Paulo Lourenço, Vítor Ferreira and Marisa Murcela.
With an approximate running time of 105 minutes, the show is rated suitable for ages 6 and up, making it an excellent opportunity for families and classical music lovers to discover this masterpiece live.
The Cultural and Congress Centre of Caldas da Rainha is one of the main cultural stages in the Oeste region, located near the city's historic centre and the famous Parque D. Carlos I.
