Art Nouveau Festival 2026 in Aveiro
Aveiro celebrates the Art Nouveau Festival from June 7 to 10, 2026 with an intense cultural program. Concerts, exhibitions, circus shows and guided tours on the Art Nouveau Route mark this event commemorating World Art Nouveau Day.
From June 7 to 10, 2026, Aveiro becomes the Portuguese capital of Art Nouveau as it celebrates the Festa Arte Nova, an initiative of the Municipality of Aveiro that marks World Art Nouveau Day (June 10) with an intense and diverse cultural program.
Internationally recognized as a reference Portuguese Art Nouveau City, Aveiro possesses a valuable architectural heritage from the early 20th century, with emblematic buildings that bear witness to the influence of the Art Nouveau movement in Portugal. During the four days of the festival, the Art Nouveau Museum opens its doors with free admission, allowing visitors to discover the richness of this artistic style that flourished in the city between 1900 and 1920.
The program includes classical music concerts at the windows and façade of the Art Nouveau Museum, featuring the cycle "Sound Landscapes of the Belle Époque", new circus performances at the Rossio, theatrical performances in the central squares and piano recitals in historic settings. The Opera Gala "Echoes of the Belle Époque" at the José Estêvão Market is one of the highlights of the program.
The Art Nouveau Route, which runs through the main buildings of this artistic current in the historic center of Aveiro, comes alive with guided tours, temporary exhibitions and activities for all ages. Visitors can admire decorated façades, unique tilework and ornamental elements that make this city a true open-air museum.
The festival attracts art, architecture and history enthusiasts from all over the country and abroad, providing an excellent opportunity to combine culture with a ride through the canals of the Ria de Aveiro in the traditional moliceiro boats. Admission to most events is free.
