The 7th edition of the Mafra Music Festival "Filipe de Sousa" takes place from June 3 to 24, 2026, offering six concerts at emblematic locations in the municipalities of Mafra and Ericeira. This cultural initiative honors conductor and composer Filipe de Sousa, an essential figure in Portuguese music, bringing together renowned artists alongside emerging talents.
The opening concert takes place on June 3 at the imposing Torreão Sul (South Tower) of the Royal Building of Mafra, marking the start of a diverse program spanning various musical genres. On June 10, Cerco Garden hosts a free open-air performance, perfect for families wanting to enjoy a musical evening in a historic setting.
June 11 and 18 transfer the festival to Ericeira, at Casa de Cultura Jaime Lobo e Silva, while June 17 returns to the Torreão Sul of the Royal Building of Mafra. The closing concert on June 24 takes place in the stunning National Palace of Mafra Library — a Baroque space classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This special evening honors the famous "castrati" Farinelli and Caffarelli, performed by Duo Off Barock, featuring countertenor Luan Góes and pianist João Elias Soares.
Tickets are affordably priced: €3 for local residents and youth under 23, and €5 for the general public. Concerts at Cerco Garden and the National Palace Library offer free admission, with prior booking required for the closing concert. Tickets can be purchased at tourist information offices in Mafra and Ericeira, through www.ticketline.pt, or at venue box offices one hour before each performance.
All concerts begin at 9:30 PM, creating a magical atmosphere on Mafra's summer nights. This festival offers a unique opportunity to discover Mafra's cultural heritage through music, in spaces rarely accessible to the public at other times of the year.
