10th Photography Contest 'In an Instant… A New Look'

· Santiago do Cacém

International photography contest challenging visitors and residents to capture the identity of Santiago do Cacém. Submissions open throughout June 2026, with prizes up to €500.

The Municipal Council of Santiago do Cacém is promoting the 10th edition of the Photography Contest 'In an Instant… A New Look' in 2026, an international initiative aimed at promoting and showcasing the tourist potential of the municipality, located in the heart of the Alentejo coast.

Open to amateur and professional photographers, whether residents or visitors, the contest runs until July 31, 2026, with June being one of the ideal periods to participate. The arrival of summer, the start of the beach season (June 13), and the characteristic Alentejo light illuminate the Blue Flag beaches, Santiago do Cacém Castle, the Roman ruins of Miróbriga, Santo André Lagoon, and the historic village of Alvalade.

The challenge is simple but inspiring: to capture, in images, the identity of the municipality — from historical heritage to natural beauty, traditions, gastronomy, and everyday moments. Each participant can submit a set of original photographs, according to the regulations provided by the municipality.

Prizes include €500 for first place, €300 for second, and €200 for third. All participants receive a certificate of participation. Winners will be announced in the second half of August 2026, and the award-winning works will be incorporated into tourism promotion materials for the municipality.

For tourists visiting Santiago do Cacém in June, participating in the contest is a unique way to transform the travel experience into a creative and potentially award-winning opportunity. Photographs can be submitted by post (with postal stamp by July 31) following the rules published on the Municipal Council's portal. This is one of the most established cultural initiatives in the municipality, with nine previous editions, celebrating the perspective of those discovering Santiago do Cacém for the first time and those who experience it every day.
