Mirandela Festivities – Our Lady of Amparo 2026
Mirandela's traditional City Festivities, in honour of Our Lady of Amparo, bring the Bragança district to life with concerts, fairs and popular traditions. For over a week the Trás-os-Montes town fills with music, gastronomy and celebration along the banks of the River Tua.
The Mirandela Festivities in honour of Our Lady of Amparo are one of the biggest summer events in the Bragança district and the heart of Trás-os-Montes. Held annually in late July and early August, they turn the riverside town of Mirandela into a celebration of light, sound and tradition that draws thousands of visitors from the region and the Trás-os-Montes diaspora.
Over more than a week, the programme combines concerts by Portuguese artists, popular street parties, philharmonic bands, folk dance groups and moments of religious devotion. The banks of the River Tua host much of the festivities, with traditional festive lighting, terraces and fairs animating the town centre well into the early hours.
The most genuine elements of the Trás-os-Montes identity are ever present: the local gastronomy, highlighted by Mirandela's famous alheira sausage (one of the best known in Portugal), olive oil, smoked meats and regional sweets. Craft fairs and local produce markets round off the experience for those seeking authentic flavours.
For tourists, the festivities are a perfect chance to discover Mirandela and north-eastern Trás-os-Montes at a time when the town is at its liveliest. Between fireworks, musical shows and processions, there is programming for all ages, from the family-friendly daytime atmosphere to the nightlife of the main stages.
Visitors are advised to confirm the detailed programme and show times with the organisers and Mirandela Town Council, as the line-up of artists and activities is announced in the weeks leading up to the event.
