LOGOS – Contemporary Circus in Aveiro's Public Space

On 8 August 2026, Teatro Aveirense hosts LOGOS, a new circus creation by Hugo Oliveira and Sage Cushman. Part of the venue's summer programme, the show offers an experience that blends contemporary circus with physical theatre, bringing to the stage distinctive themes drawn from the stories and traditions of the Aveiro community.

LOGOS starts from the idea that the body is itself a language. Without relying on elaborate staging, the two performers build a physical dramaturgy of balances, falls, suspensions and repeated gestures, where the technical risk of circus serves an emotional narrative. It is an accessible show for audiences who have never seen contemporary circus, yet layered enough to reward those who follow the performing arts closely.

Teatro Aveirense is the city's main performance venue and one of the historic theatres of central Portugal. Located on Rua Belém do Pará, a few minutes' walk from the Central Canal and the Rossio, it makes a natural starting point for an evening in Aveiro: before or after the show, walk along the canals, try ovos moles at one of the traditional pastry shops, or have dinner around Praça do Peixe, the heart of the city's nightlife.

Teatro Aveirense's August programme also includes the object theatre piece Ainda Nada? by Márcia Leite on 1 and 2 August, and a concert by the collective MAQUINA on 6 August, which takes music out into the streets of the Novas Quintas neighbourhood.
