Linen Festival - Linhares da Beira

· Linhares da Beira

The inaugural Linen Festival celebrates flax and linen as living heritage of Serra da Estrela in the historic village of Linhares da Beira. Three days of entertainment, music, workshops, demonstrations, interpretive routes, exhibitions, theater and an eco-market.

The Festa do Linho (Linen Festival) arrives for the first time in the historic Village of Linhares da Beira between June 5 and 7, 2026, in an event that aims to establish itself as an initiative for preserving local identity and valuing the territory, linen culture and heritage.

Resulting from collaboration between the Municipality of Celorico da Beira and various local entities, the Linen Festival positions itself as a meeting point between memory, territory and contemporary creation, valuing linen as living heritage of Serra da Estrela and as an identity element of rural communities. This first edition is integrated into the "Linho a Fio" (Linen Thread) project, which aims to revitalize the biosocial culture of linen, promoting ecological regeneration, the valorization of local knowledge and new forms of relationship between community and territory.

During three days, visitors will be able to participate in numerous activities, including entertainment, music, workshops, demonstrations, interpretive routes, exhibitions, theater and an eco-market, in addition to various moments of community participation. The eco-market is an open space bringing together local producers, artisans, associations and initiatives related to territory, sustainability, local products, crafts and responsible production practices.

The historic village of Linhares da Beira, with its impressive medieval castle and granite streets, offers the perfect setting for this celebration of mountain tradition and culture. It is a unique opportunity to discover one of Portugal's most beautiful historic villages while learning about the fascinating history of linen, from its cultivation to weaving, passing through all the traditional production stages.

This initiative has great potential for continuity and growth in future editions, contributing to the cultural and tourist dynamism of the Serra da Estrela region.
