Lãnd – Wool Innovation Week 2026 (2nd Weekend)
The 4th edition of Lãnd – Wool Innovation Week returns to Manteigas with the theme 'Friction', placing wool at the centre of the identity, memory and innovation of the Serra da Estrela. The second weekend (10–12 July) unveils the results of artist residencies, workshops, concerts and gastronomic moments.
From 10 to 12 July 2026, Manteigas once again becomes Portugal's wool capital with the second weekend of the Lãnd – Wool Innovation Week, now in its 4th edition. Organised by the Municipality of Manteigas in partnership with ADIRAM – the Mountain Villages Network Development Association, this year's event adopts the theme 'Friction', inviting artists, researchers, producers and visitors to reflect on wool as the greatest symbol of identity, memory and innovation of this mountain territory.
The second programming weekend is dedicated to unveiling the results of the artist residencies held throughout the year. Highlights include the work of artist Joana Bastos and the duo from New Hand Lab, Francisco Afonso and Ana Paula de Almeida, blending design, technology and textile tradition. The programme also features the launch of the book 'Uma nova economia para a aldeia do séc. XXI' by Jaime Izquierdo and Ana Mendonça, a deep reflection on the future of rural communities.
Over three days, visitors can take part in hands-on workshops on spinning, natural dyeing, felting and weaving, meet local craftspeople and taste Serra da Estrela products at several gastronomic moments. On Sunday, the community gathers for a convivial picnic at the old Riverside Factory (Fábrica do Rio), closing the event in a spirit of sharing.
The 'Friction' exhibition, on display at Casa do Lãnd, can be visited until 12 July, bringing together pieces that dialogue between tradition and contemporary creation. Sunset concerts, talks and guided tours of the village workshops complete a programme designed for those seeking an authentic cultural experience in the heart of the Serra da Estrela.
The initiative is part of the Action Plan of the PROVERE Mountain Villages 2030 Collective Efficiency Strategy and is co-financed by the Centro 2030 programme. Most activities are free of charge, with prior registration recommended for the workshops.
