INDEX 2026 — ROAD RUNNER and BB Born to Bloom, by Cemile Sahin

Until 8 August 2026, Galeria Um at gnration, on Braga's Praça Conde de Agrolongo, presents one of the highlights of the city's visual arts calendar: an exhibition by Cemile Sahin as part of the INDEX 2026 biennial.

Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, and of Kurdish-Alevi heritage, Cemile Sahin is a visual artist and writer working across film, photography, literature and sculpture. Her practice consistently addresses power structures, war and violence through a saturated, pop-inflected visual language.

The show brings together two recent works, both from 2025. ROAD RUNNER turns the gallery into a vivid environment that borrows the visual grammar of pop culture and video games to tackle contemporary political subjects — notably the use of drones by corporations, authoritarian regimes and the military. The installation combines a film with sixteen unique aluminium panels, staged on a yellow carpet and accompanied by multi-coloured text passages, drawing visitors into an aesthetic uncomfortably close to the screens they scroll every day.

BB — Born to Bloom continues the artist's inquiry into the intersection of war and nature, asking how landscape becomes both the stage for armed conflict and a tool of military strategy. LED screens juxtapose contrasting topographies — the Swiss Alps and the Kurdish mountain ranges — underlining how the same terrain can read as refuge or battlefield depending on who controls the narrative.

INDEX is Braga's media arts biennial. The city is a UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts, and gnration — a converted former barracks — is its flagship venue, one of northern Portugal's most dynamic cultural centres, with a year-round programme of music, exhibitions and artist residencies.

Practical information: admission is free. Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 6:30pm, and Saturday from 10:00am to 6:30pm.
