Festas da Praia 2026 – The Land That Moves Us, People That Unite Us
The Festas da Praia return to Terceira Island from 31 July to 9 August 2026, under the theme "The Land That Moves Us, People That Unite Us". Ten days of concerts, food, bullfighting and tradition turn Praia da Vitória into the biggest summer celebration in the Azores.
The Festas da Praia are the most significant event on Terceira Island's cultural calendar and one of the largest summer celebrations across the entire Azores archipelago. In 2026 they run from 31 July to 9 August in the city of Praia da Vitória, under the theme "The Land That Moves Us, People That Unite Us" — a tribute to the people, traditions and identity of the municipality's many parishes.
For ten days, the city comes alive with multiple stages spread along the waterfront and throughout the historic centre. The musical lineup promises something for every taste, with confirmed names including Anselmo Ralph, Plutónio, Bispo and Hybrid Theory, alongside tribute acts such as ABBA Prestige and DOCE Tributo, and shows like the Big Show Circus. The party continues late into the night in the well-known concert and clubbing zone.
Food is another major draw, with the Gastronomy Fair bringing together traditional Azorean flavours — from stews and grilled meats to the famous Dona Amélia cake and Terceira's celebrated alcatra beef. Food stalls and taverns serve regional snacks and wines in a festive, family-friendly atmosphere.
Bullfighting tradition also takes centre stage. The Tourada de Praça is scheduled for 3 August at 6:30 PM at the Terceira Island Bullring, featuring horsemen João Moura, Francisco Palha and João Pamplona together with the amateur forcado groups. The popular street bull runs (touradas à corda) enliven several of the city's streets throughout the festival.
Beyond music and food, the festivities include parades, ethnographic processions, handicrafts, sporting activities and fireworks over Praia da Vitória bay. It is the perfect occasion to experience Azorean hospitality, immerse yourself in local culture and enjoy the white-sand beaches that give the city its name. The Festas da Praia draw thousands of visitors each year, many of them emigrants returning home for the occasion. Entry to the festival grounds is generally free.
