Didgeridoo Festival FATT 2026 (17th edition)

· Odemira

FATT returns to São Teotónio, in the Odemira municipality, for another edition dedicated to the didgeridoo and Australian Aboriginal culture. Four days of workshops, concerts and outdoor activities by the Ribeira do Ruivo stream.

The Didgeridoo Festival – FATT reaches its 17th edition from August 27 to 30, 2026, this time set up at Ribeira do Ruivo, in São Teotónio, within the Odemira municipality. Organized by the Portuguese Didgeridoo Association (APD), it is one of the most distinctive gatherings on the Alentejo coast's cultural calendar, bringing together practitioners, curious visitors and world-music lovers in a natural setting by the stream.

Over four days, the site turns into a small cultural camp with more than 30 activities, including workshops, talks and concerts. Beyond the didgeridoo — the traditional wind instrument of the Australian Aboriginal peoples — the program includes introductions to hand-pan, jaw harp, overtone singing, dance and percussion, among other disciplines linked to tribal and traditional arts.

The festival was founded in 2002 by APD, a non-profit association whose mission is to promote the didgeridoo and Australian Aboriginal culture in Portugal, and it has grown over the years into a meeting point for an international community of musicians and craftspeople. The atmosphere is participatory: alongside concerts and demonstrations, visitors can watch and try their hand at instrument-making, join drum circles and gather around evening bonfires.

Alongside the artistic program, the site also hosts stalls selling handicrafts, fair-trade products and ethnic instruments, plus a food area serving home-style meals throughout the day. Camping accommodation is available for multi-day pass holders, reinforcing the event's community spirit.

For anyone visiting the Alentejo coast at the end of August, FATT offers a rare chance to combine beach, nature and an unusual cultural immersion, set in the bucolic surroundings of São Teotónio by a stream. Visitors planning to stay on-site for the full four days should bring a tent or camper, comfortable clothing and sun protection, as most of the program takes place outdoors.

For up-to-date information on tickets, passes and the detailed schedule, interested visitors should check the official website of the Portuguese Didgeridoo Association.
