Contrasta Festival 2026
The Contrasta Festival returns to the imposing Fortress of Valença on 10 and 11 July 2026, blending hip-hop, fado and flamenco in a bold lineup. Two days of live music featuring acts like Mundo Segundo & Sam The Kid and Carminho, set against one of the most striking backdrops in the Alto Minho.
The Contrasta Festival returns to Valença on 10 and 11 July 2026, transforming the historic Fortress of Valença, beside the Cortinas de São Francisco, into a vibrant stage of musical encounters. True to its name, the festival stages a dialogue between seemingly opposite genres — from hip-hop to fado, from trap to flamenco — celebrating the diversity and cultural crossover that defines this border city in the Alto Minho.
The first night, on 10 July, is dedicated to the roots and energy of Portuguese hip-hop. Mundo Segundo & Sam The Kid, two iconic names with decades of history and legendary beats, headline the bill. Alongside them, Papillon brings his intensity between rap and soul, with raw and memorable performances, while Lon3r Johny represents the new wave of Portuguese trap, with an irreverent energy that captivates younger audiences.
The second night, on 11 July, shifts towards emotion and virtuosity. Carminho, one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary fado, promises to send shivers through the crowd with her presence and sensitivity. Yerai Cortés brings the virtuosity of flamenco guitar in a modern approach that bridges tradition and innovation, and Nouvelle Vague closes with elegance and nostalgia, reinventing classics in a sophisticated and captivating sound.
Held within the 17th-century walls of the fortress — one of the largest bastion fortifications in Europe — the Contrasta Festival offers a unique experience, where music echoes between bastions and panoramic views over the Minho river and neighbouring Tui, Spain. It is the perfect chance to combine a cultural getaway with a discovery of Valença's heritage.
Tickets are available online at bol.pt and at the usual outlets (Fnac, CTT, El Corte Inglés), as well as at the Tourism Office and Municipal Library of Valença. A two-day pass costs €30 and a daily ticket €20. Early booking is recommended given the event's growing popularity.
