Bilíadas 2026 - Traditional Games in Vila Real

· Vila Real

The Bilíadas return to Vila Real on 4 and 5 July, celebrating traditional games, fellowship and community spirit. At Jardim da Carreira, parishes from across the municipality compete in events that celebrate local identity and bring generations together.

The Bilíadas return to Vila Real on 4 and 5 July 2026, in an edition that promises to reinforce tradition, fellowship and community spirit. Held at Jardim da Carreira, in the heart of the city, these celebrations bring together participants from various parishes of the municipality in a festival marked by team spirit, healthy competition and intergenerational togetherness.

The programme kicks off on 4 July with an opening ceremony scheduled for 9:00 PM, featuring a performance by the well-known Trás-os-Montes comedian and musician Rouxinol Faduncho, ensuring great moments of entertainment and good cheer. That same day sees the Bilíadas Kids, a non-competitive activity that introduces younger generations to traditional games, allowing children to try out some of the games from their grandparents' time.

On 5 July, the main events run from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, during which teams from the different parishes challenge one another across the various traditional game disciplines. Throughout the day, Jardim da Carreira fills with colour, entertainment and a festive atmosphere that engages participants and spectators of all ages.

More than a competition, the Bilíadas aim to strengthen the bonds between the municipality's parishes through traditional sport, togetherness and the celebration of local identity. The initiative revives and celebrates popular games that form part of the region's collective memory, keeping alive traditions that might otherwise be lost.

For visitors, the Bilíadas are a unique opportunity to experience Trás-os-Montes culture up close, in an authentic and welcoming environment. It is a free event, ideal for families and for those seeking a genuine experience during summer in Vila Real. Amid laughter, competition and tradition, the Bilíadas are a true celebration of community.
