A Estrada Festival 2026 – From São Francisco da Serra to Costa de Santo André
From 9 to 13 August, the A Estrada Festival once again travels along municipal road 544, between the village of São Francisco da Serra and Costa de Santo André beach. Music, hikes, workshops and gastronomy on stages set into the landscape of Santiago do Cacém.
The A Estrada Festival returns to the municipality of Santiago do Cacém from 9 to 13 August 2026, offering a different way to experience summer on the Alentejo coast. Instead of a single venue, the festival unfolds along municipal road 544 and its branches, between the hillside village of São Francisco da Serra and the beach of Costa de Santo André, with stages and activities woven into the hills, the coastal lagoon and the sands.
The opening date is no accident: 9 August evokes the collective memory of the Festa de São Romão, when people from the hills would descend each year to Costa de Santo André for their traditional sea bathing. It is this journey, from hills to ocean, that the festival transforms into an itinerant, transdisciplinary cultural programme.
Organised by Transiberia Productions, funded by DGArtes and run in institutional partnership with the Municipality of Santiago do Cacém and Atelier Artéria, A Estrada positions itself as a new-generation event: ecological, community-minded and designed with minimal visual noise, so that each artistic proposal connects with the spirit of the place hosting it.
In previous editions, the programme combined evening concerts — with artists such as Ana Lua Caiano and Duarte — bicycle tours with brunch, guided hikes, landscape drawing workshops, wine and olive oil tastings, open-air film screenings, dinner conversations and DJ sets by the beach. For 2026 a similar structure is expected, spread across several stages: the Serra stage, the Lagoa stage and the Beach stage, each with its own identity.
For visitors to the Alentejo coast in August, this festival is a rare chance to discover a lesser-known territory — cork oak woodlands, coastal lagoons and wild beaches — guided by music and performing arts. The proximity of the Santo André Lagoon, its Natural Reserve and the beaches of Costa de Santo André makes it easy to combine the festival with days of beach and nature.
The detailed programme, times, daily tickets and passes are announced on the festival's official website (festivalaestrada.pt) and through the Municipality of Santiago do Cacém's channels. Checking in advance is recommended, as some activities, such as dinners with talks and guided walks, have limited capacity and require registration.
