White Night in Santarém

On 22 August 2026, Jardim da República in Santarém hosts the debut of White Night (Noite Branca), one of the standout novelties of the Verão iN.Santarém 2026 programme. The initiative, organised by Santarém Municipal Council, invites all attendees to dress entirely in white for an evening dedicated to music, dance and street entertainment in the heart of the city.

The event brings together an eclectic line-up featuring DJs António Salvador, Pedro Garrido and Carolina Torres, Karla Silva's Samba Circle, and the Kaustika Marching Band, promising a mix of rhythms ranging from electronic music to samba, alongside the lively street-band animation typical of Portuguese fanfarras. The atmosphere is designed to be experienced as a community, with the garden transformed into a large open-air ballroom, specially lit and decorated for the occasion.

According to the mayor, João Teixeira Leite, White Night represents "another great moment of celebration" in Santarém's historic centre, with the potential to draw visitors from outside the municipality and reinforce the city as a summer cultural destination. The initiative fits into the council's broader strategy of energising the historic centre and surrounding parishes with a cultural programme that runs until September.

For visitors planning a summer getaway to the Ribatejo region, White Night is a great excuse to experience Santarém after dark, with Jardim da República as the central meeting point, surrounded by outdoor cafés and just a short walk from other iconic city landmarks such as Portas do Sol or the Cathedral (Sé).
