Sunset Monsaraz Beach Fest

On September 21, the tranquil Monsaraz River Beach transforms into an open-air dance floor to mark the close of the bathing season. Sunset Monsaraz Beach Fest is organized by the Reguengos de Monsaraz municipality and brings together electronic music, riverside scenery, and the unmistakable Alentejo sunset in one evening.
From 5pm to 10pm, the shores of the great Alqueva Lake near Monsaraz host DJ sets performed from an improvised stage: a sailboat anchored right in front of the beach. The idea is simple yet captivating — sit on the sand, feet in the water or on a picnic blanket, and watch the sun disappear behind the Alentejo hills while the music keeps the atmosphere alive.
The event is free and open to all ages, making it a great opportunity for families, couples, and groups of friends to enjoy a different kind of late afternoon before autumn begins. Monsaraz river beach, awarded Blue Flag status in previous years, has become a popular destination for those seeking a calm-water alternative to the sea, surrounded by the serene Alentejo countryside.
Besides the music, the beach area usually offers informal food and drink stalls, perfect for a light bite while soaking in the atmosphere. Visitors are advised to arrive early to secure a good spot on the sand, especially close to sunset, which tends to be the highlight of the party.
This is also a great excuse to visit the historic hilltop village of Monsaraz, perched above the reservoir landscape. After the beach party, it's worth heading up to the castle and medieval streets of the village, just a short drive away, to round off the experience with a traditional Alentejo dinner at one of the local restaurants.
Over recent editions, Sunset Monsaraz Beach Fest has become one of the most anticipated moments in the region's summer calendar, symbolically marking the transition from the bathing season to autumn in the heart of the Alentejo.
