Madeira Flower Festival 2026 — Allegoric Parade

· Funchal

The grand Allegoric Parade of the Madeira Flower Festival fills Avenida do Mar with colour, music and perfume. Around a thousand performers parade in flower-covered costumes in one of Madeira's most iconic spectacles.

The Madeira Flower Festival returns in 2026 with a special edition running from 30 April to 24 May, and its undisputed highlight remains the Allegoric Flower Parade. For the first time, the main parade is split across two Sundays — 3 and 17 May — along Avenida do Mar in Funchal, starting at 4:00 PM.

With around one thousand performers of all ages, the parade is a true symphony of colour: floral floats blanketed in fresh island blooms, elaborate choreographies, live music, and costumes crafted from thousands of petals. The choreography tells the story of Madeira through its endemic flowers — bird-of-paradise, anthuriums, orchids, hydrangeas and agapanthus — in a spectacle that takes months to prepare.

Watching the parade from the pavement is free of charge, but official grandstand seats with reserved viewing — typically around €30 — offer a prime perspective along the route. We recommend arriving at least one hour early to secure a good spot.

Beyond the parade, Funchal buzzes with flower and regional product markets, exhibitions, intricate flower carpets paving the historic centre, concerts in the city gardens, and the Wall of Hope ceremony at Praça do Município. There is no better time to visit Madeira: spring is at its peak, the weather is pleasantly mild, and the entire island breathes the joy of the flower.

The parade ends near the Pontinha area, but festivities continue well into the evening at the restaurants, terraces and bars of central Funchal. An absolutely unmissable event for anyone visiting Madeira in May.
