The 39th Madeira Music Festival takes place over four weekends in March 2026, featuring the Madeira Classical Orchestra under the artistic direction of violinist Norberto Gomes. The program includes symphonic concerts, piano recitals, and chamber music with internationally acclaimed artists.
The 39th Madeira Music Festival (FMM) is one of the most prestigious cultural events in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, promoted by the Associação Notas e Sinfonias Atlânticas, the managing body of the Madeira Classical Orchestra. Under the artistic direction of violinist Norberto Gomes, the festival returns in March 2026 for its 39th edition, spanning four consecutive weekends.
The Opening Concert, scheduled for March 8 at the Madeira Congress Centre, brings together three distinct and complementary musical worlds. Under the baton of conductor Tibor Bogányi, the Madeira Classical Orchestra will perform works by Nuno Jacinto, Johannes Brahms, and Elgar. A highlight will be Brahms' Double Concerto for Violin and Cello, featuring soloists Kirill Troussov and Benedict Kloeckner.
Throughout the month, the festival presents a diverse program including piano recitals, chamber music, and unique presentations. On March 13 at 9 PM, MUDAS – Madeira Museum of Contemporary Art hosts "The Faun of the Mountains," an opera-film presented on the centenary of its premiere. On March 14, pianist Junyan Chen performs a recital at the Teatro Municipal Baltazar Dias, and on March 22, Rafael Kyrychenko presents a piano recital at the Regional Legislative Assembly.
The program also features performances by the Busch Trio in a concert dedicated to Ludwig van Beethoven's chamber music, and by MAAT – Saxophone Quartet, celebrating the versatility of this ensemble. All concerts take place in iconic venues across Funchal, providing an immersive cultural experience in an unforgettable Atlantic setting.
