35th Azorean Trolling Boat Tournament 2026

· Vila do Porto

One of the most emblematic sport fishing competitions in the Azores returns for its 35th edition in Santa Maria. From June 5–8, the Clube Naval de Santa Maria welcomes anglers from various islands and the mainland for two days of trolling fishing in the Atlantic.

The 35th Azorean Trolling Boat Tournament takes place from June 5 to 8, 2026, in Vila do Porto on Santa Maria island, organized by the Clube Naval de Santa Maria. This is one of the oldest and most prestigious sport fishing competitions in the Azores, with 35 consecutive editions that have established Santa Maria as one of the leading trolling destinations in the North Atlantic.

The tournament begins on Friday, June 5, at 8:00 PM, with the technical briefing and captains' meeting at the Clube Naval facilities. The two fishing days take place on Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7. Boats gather at 4:00 PM, leave port at 5:00 PM, and return at 11:00 PM. The weigh-in of catches happens at 11:30 PM on the Clube Naval dock — always a highlight for participants and spectators alike.

On the final day, June 8, the official classification is posted at 10:00 AM, followed by the closing dinner and awards ceremony at 8:00 PM in the Clube Naval restaurant. This gala brings together teams from several Azorean islands, sponsors, and local authorities, and is one of the most anticipated moments of the event.

Target species include bigeye tuna, albacore, wahoo, dorado, and blue marlin — caught in the deep waters surrounding Santa Maria, an area renowned for its rich fisheries and excellent conditions. For visitors, the tournament offers a unique opportunity to experience the vibrant atmosphere of an international competition, meet the island's fishing community, and enjoy local gastronomy at the marina's bars and restaurants.
