São Pedro Festivities 2026 in Câmara de Lobos

· Câmara de Lobos

From 26 June to 1 July, Câmara de Lobos comes alive to honour São Pedro, patron saint of fishermen. Six days of tradition, music, popular parades and fireworks transform this fishing town into a sea of light and celebration.

The São Pedro Festivities are one of the largest celebrations in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, on the island of Madeira. In 2026 they run from 26 June to 1 July, extending into the first day of July with six days of revelry, faith and tradition that draw thousands of people into the streets of the town.

São Pedro (Saint Peter) is the patron saint of fishermen, and in this authentic fishing village his feast takes on special meaning. The celebrations blend a religious dimension — with processions and moments of devotion — and an intense cultural and musical programme that carries on through the night. Traditional popular parades (marchas populares) wind through the decorated streets, while brass bands, folk groups and local artists liven up the heart of the town.

The 2026 music line-up promises something for everyone, featuring names such as D.A.M.A, ProfJam, fado singer Sara Correia and the show PLATINUM – The Live ABBA Tribute Show. Between concerts, dances and street parties, there is entertainment for families, young people and visitors of all ages.

One of the highlights is the grand fireworks display that lights up the bay of Câmara de Lobos, reflecting on the waters where the colourful traditional boats that so inspired painter Winston Churchill come to rest. Stalls of traditional Madeiran food — espetada (beef skewers), bolo do caco, fried corn and the famous poncha — round off the sensory experience of the festival.

For tourists, the São Pedro Festivities are a unique chance to experience the authenticity of Madeiran culture, away from conventional tourist circuits. Its proximity to Funchal (about 15 minutes by car) makes the event easily accessible. Arriving early is recommended to soak up the atmosphere, find a spot by the marina, and enjoy the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean before the night's festivities begin.
