The 2026 beach season in the Sines municipality officially begins on 13 June and runs until 19 September, with the exception of São Torpes Beach, whose season extends to 30 September. The dates follow the calendar set by the Portuguese Environment Agency and mark the start of lifeguard surveillance on all concessioned beaches in the municipality.
The Sines coastline offers a number of Blue Flag beaches, including Praia Vasco da Gama, right in the city centre, São Torpes Beach, famous for its warm waters thanks to the nearby thermoelectric plant, Praia do Norte, next to the port, and Praia de Morgavel. In Porto Covo, a parish within the municipality, highlights include Samouqueira, Pessegueiro Island beach and Praia Grande.
Throughout the summer, Sines Municipality runs a varied programme of seaside activities, including surf and bodyboard lessons, stand-up paddle outings, sunrise yoga sessions, children's entertainment and concerts on the sand. The city's seafront also fills with terraces, food trucks and craft markets.
The opening coincides with the weekends of São João and the Santos Populares, contributing to a festive atmosphere that combines Alentejo tradition and seaside tourism. It is an excellent time for visitors to discover the best-kept secret of the Alentejo Coast, with crystal-clear Atlantic waters, rugged cliffs and a gastronomy deeply tied to the sea.
Beach facilities, restaurants and bars return to full operation, with extended hours. We recommend checking the Praias de Portugal app for up-to-date information on water quality, swell conditions and the flags flying at each beach.
