MIUT - Madeira Island Ultra-Trail 2026

The 17th edition of MIUT® - Madeira Island Ultra-Trail® is scheduled for April 25-26, 2026, cementing its position as one of Madeira Island's most important sporting events and one of Europe's most iconic trail running races.

Organized by the Clube de Montanha do Funchal, MIUT features five single-stage, non-stop races, all run on linear courses that cross the island from northwest to southeast. The main ultra-trail race starts in Porto Moniz at sea level, climbs to the island's highest points, and returns to sea level in Machico, passing through breathtaking landscapes including laurel forests, deep valleys, and mountain peaks.

The course crosses the municipalities of Porto Moniz, Calheta, Ponta do Sol, Ribeira Brava, São Vicente, Santana, Câmara de Lobos, Funchal, Santa Cruz, and Machico. The passage through Câmara de Lobos and the village of Curral das Freiras is one of the race's most memorable moments, with athletes descending into a valley surrounded by towering mountains before resuming the climb.

With approximately 3,500 participants across the various distances, MIUT attracts runners from around the world and transforms the island into a celebration of outdoor sport. For spectators and tourists, it's a unique opportunity to watch athletes pass through strategic points along the course, particularly in Câmara de Lobos and Curral das Freiras, and to experience the infectious energy of this international competition.

Even for those not participating in the race, the MIUT days offer a festive atmosphere with parallel activities and the chance to explore the trails of Madeira that make this island a top destination for nature lovers and mountain sports enthusiasts.
