Festa da Terra e dos Gaiteiros - Urrós

· Mogadouro

The village of Urrós, in the municipality of Mogadouro, hosts the 3rd edition of the Festa da Terra e dos Gaiteiros, a weekend dedicated to Trás-os-Montes traditions, with bagpipers, folk music, regional cuisine and activities for the whole family.

The small village of Urrós, in the heart of the Mogadouro municipality, comes alive once again with tradition and music on 6 and 7 June 2026 to celebrate the third edition of the Festa da Terra e dos Gaiteiros (Festival of the Land and the Bagpipers). The event is a tribute to the Trás-os-Montes identity and the cultural roots of a region where the sound of bagpipes still sets the rhythm of popular festivities.

Over two days, the programme includes performances by bagpipe groups from various locations across the Northeast Trás-os-Montes region, traditional music sessions, themed talks (tertúlias), guided walks through the surrounding countryside and a classic vehicle gathering that brings together enthusiasts from all over the region. Gastronomy also plays a central role, with food stalls serving typical dishes such as posta mirandesa (grilled steak), meat-stuffed folar, smoked sausages and conventual sweets.

The festival is organised by the Municipality of Mogadouro in partnership with the local parish council and associations, and has established itself as one of the cultural highlights of the Miranda plateau at the start of summer. For visitors, it is a unique opportunity to discover an authentic village, meet local artisans and take part in moments of conviviality that keep centuries-old traditions alive.

Urrós is just a few kilometres from the International Douro River, so a visit can easily be combined with walks through the Douro Internacional Natural Park, scenic viewpoints over the cliffs and wine tastings in the region. Admission is free and the event is particularly recommended for families, lovers of traditional music and tourists looking for authentic cultural experiences in Portugal.
