21st Portalegre JazzFest
Portalegre JazzFest returns for its 21st edition, turning CAE Portalegre into the jazz capital of Alto Alentejo for three days. International-quality concerts, regional product tastings and parallel activities define this landmark event.
The 21st Portalegre JazzFest returns to Portalegre from July 2 to 4, 2026, cementing its status as one of the most important jazz festivals in inland Portugal. Organized by the Centro de Artes do Espectáculo (CAE) of Portalegre, the festival brings together national and international projects exploring contemporary jazz, improvised music, and crossovers with other musical languages over three days.
Held at CAE Portalegre, right in the historic center of this Alentejo city, the festival stands out for its careful curation, combining established names of European jazz with new voices from the Portuguese scene. Over the past two decades, Portalegre JazzFest has welcomed artists such as Bill Frisell, Thomas Morgan, Ricardo Toscano, and dozens of internationally renowned musicians, becoming a defining cultural landmark of Alto Alentejo.
Beyond the main stage concerts, the festival offers an extended experience including Birdzzie, the informal post-concert space where conversations continue and jam sessions take place, and the Vinyl Record Fair, which draws collectors and curious visitors alike. The program also features regional product tastings showcasing the gastronomy and wines of Alto Alentejo to visitors arriving from across the country and abroad.
Portalegre, with its Baroque architecture, historic cobblestone streets, and proximity to the Serra de São Mamede natural park, offers the ideal backdrop for a summer cultural getaway. The three days of the festival are a unique opportunity to discover the best of jazz, explore the heritage of this inland city, and enjoy warm Alentejo nights. Advance ticket purchase through CAE is recommended, especially for main stage concerts which often sell out.
Don't miss this special edition marking more than two decades of jazz in Portalegre, in a festival that has become a must on the Portuguese cultural calendar.
